What mystery books would one recommend to someone who hasn’t read any mysteries since Sherlock Homes and Nero Wolf?

If you’re looking for screwball comedy with a sassy characters, I like Janet Evanovich, Harlan Coben and Elmore Leonard. For tightly drawn suspense, there’s Lee Child, Walter Mosley and Lisa Scottolione.  Happy reading.

The Weed that Strings the Hangman’s Bag, I think by Alan Bradley, Thus Was Adonis Murdered, by Sarah Caudwell; Margery Allingham, the Inspector Morse series by Dexter, to name a few of my favorites.

For Beginners in mysteries, these should help:
An Unsuitable Job for a Woman by PD James.
The Bridesmaid by Ruth Rendell
Any books by John Dickson Carr & Agatha Christie

I fell in love with Poison for the Prince: An Italian Renaissance Mystery, and all the other novels in the Sigismondo series of novels by Elizabeth Eyre. That’s actually a pen name for 2 authors: Jill Staynes and Margaret Storey. While reading them, I sometimes envisioned Bruce Willis playing the lead character. The other book titles follow the same naming pattern: Curtains for the Cardinal, Death of a Duchess, Axe for an Abbott. I discovered them by perusing the library.

This whodunnit’s lead character is sort of a blend of Sherlock Holmes, MacGyver and James Bond.

Turbo Hi-Fi [+1]

– Active noise cancellation with dedicated mic

BATTERY:

This is really tricky part of this phone, as Moto X Play has heating issues and the tall claims made by company regarding battery life which will last for more than a day is false. No matter how much big battery you have even 10000 mAH battery won’t last a day if your phone has heating issues and after upgrading to MM version Moto X Play started to drain more faster. But still I have to give a point to Moto X Play just to show the bigger battery on paper.

Both have fast battery charging: 60% in 30 min (Quick Charge 2.0) but depend on the fast charger you use.

Moto X Play

Non-removable 3630 mAh battery [+1]

Lenovo Vibe X3

Non-removable Li-Po 3500 mAh battery

Last but not the least one of my fav. feature VR mode. Awesomeness is only the one word you can use here if you compare this feature. [+1]

If you buy Lenovo Vibe X3 just don’t forget to buy best quality VR headsets to get the super 3D feeling.

Now let me put the points which will prove who is the clear winner.

Moto X Play Points : 7 points

Lenovo Vibe X3 Points : 19 points

Please do tell me if I missed any point. Hope this review has helped you and made clear winner. As both are good flagship phones in it’s own way. But in the end we all deserve the best.

Some dressing hacks everyone should know..

Men’s Shirts

Fit your shirt to your shoulders.

A men’s shirt fits if the seam sits at the point of the shoulders.

Most men will select a shirt that matches their “size” which is the neck measurement, but, if the shoulder seams do not sit like they do in the image above then you need a different shirt!

The fit you choose should match your preferred style and body type but should not be pulling at the buttons or bunching/billowing at the sleeves or waist.

Note above that although the shirts fit differently, the neck size is the same and shoulder seams are correct.

Coordinating With Your Outfit

The fit of your shirt, besides matching your body type should be consistent with your pant fit. You should not wear a slim shirt with relaxed pants and vice-versa. I would argue this is true with the width of your tie as well.

A neck tie should always reach to just about the belt buckle as it does in the 3rd picture above. The middle picture should probably be with a slimmer tie and it should hang lower.

Someone else posted about shirt tucking so I’ll skip that except to say to remember to keep the front of the shirt in line with the zip of the pants.

These rules hold true for casual clothes as well with the exception of baggy clothes styles where the shoulder seam can sit beyond the actual point of the shoulder.

Boys to Men — Conversion in progress

Here are some productive habits that change boys into men..

Be mature.

  1. Instead of your dad, you ask your sister how she is, how she’s been doing, whether she needs something
  2. Remind your parents that they need to walk daily, take their medicines on time, ask them to take food on time and eat fruits.
  3. When you are at home, make sure everything is working fine. You should lock the door at night.
  4. Manage your family’s expenses. Learn if you could contribute to any of the insurance policies.
  5. Make sure you teach them something which has a generation gap. Teach them how to use a smartphone, or how to make a call over Whatsapp, how they can search devotional videos over YouTube.
  6. Do things for them which they missed out on doing because they were busy raising you up. Take them for a vacation, or buy them clothes or footwear they like.

The Book of Man

The amazing law ever..

It’s got to be The Zipf’s law.

It says that if you pick any language or a book and rank the most commonly used words then the frequency of any word is inversely proportional to its rank in the frequency table.

For example…

If the most used words in a book are ranked as:

1. The

2. Of

3. And

4. To

5. A

then the word “Of” will be used half as often as “The”. Similarly the word “And” will be used (1/3) times as often as the word “The”. All the words will follow the (1/rank) system.

The above image shows the graph of most used words in the book Moby Dick.

This law applies to every language, every book and many other things such as city populations, last names, number of phone calls people receive, etc.

I took two random answers from Quora under the same question and made a word rank using the Internet.

Here the example of Zipf’s law can be seen; the word “you” is used almost 1/2 as often as the word “The” and the word “of” 1/3 times as often and so on up to rank 5 (because the data is taken from only 1000 words). The more words you use, the more accurate this law gets.

It’s amazing how a simple law can define such a complex thing.
